works.
What is brainwave entrainment?
Your brain produces electrical oscillations at different frequencies depending on your mental state. Beta waves (12-30 Hz) dominate when you're alert and focused. Alpha waves (8-12 Hz) appear during relaxed awareness. Theta (4-8 Hz) and Delta (0.5-4 Hz) characterize sleep and deep rest.
Brainwave entrainment is the process of guiding these oscillations to a target frequency using an external rhythmic stimulus. When exposed consistently to a rhythmic pulse, the brain tends to synchronize its own oscillations — a phenomenon called the Frequency Following Response (FFR).
Why amplitude modulation?
MoodHack uses amplitude modulation (AM) rather than binaural beats. AM works by pulsing the volume of a carrier tone at the target frequency — for example, 14.5 pulses per second to target 14.5 Hz Beta. This approach is more robust than binaural beats because it works on both ears simultaneously, doesn't require headphones, and produces stronger entrainment effects.
The signal meets your brain
The AM pulse is embedded below the music layer — perceptible but not distracting. Your auditory system detects the rhythm and begins to synchronize cortical oscillations to the target frequency.
The ISO principle guides the journey
Each protocol starts near your current brain state and guides you gradually to the target. Starting too far from your baseline causes rejection. The ramp rate is calibrated to ensure smooth entrainment without resistance.
Training builds a conditioned response
With consistent use, your brain learns to associate the audio with the target state. After 15 sessions, the conditioned response allows the same state to be reached faster — this is how Level 2 achieves the same outcome in half the time.
HRV confirms it's working
Heart Rate Variability (RMSSD) is a direct measure of autonomic nervous system state. Activation protocols produce a measurable sympathetic response. Recovery protocols increase parasympathetic tone. Track both before and after to see the data.
